Canon EOS 40D Live View and astro-photography

and canon allows you to use your pc, so you can attach via usb and see the liveview on your pc monitor in high resolution.

this is really usefull.. i tried some shots before on MF ( only 250mm on a crop) but they were out of focus… i hope this will help(need time before the sky clears out)

live view means you can use the screen for taking pictures and not just the viewfinder, this isnt very common on DSLR's but its starting to get more popular.

Great video. I've had my 40d for a few years and I've just started to get an interest in Astrophotography. Now I just got to find a good telescope.

Any telescope shop will be able to sell you one with a tube attached – try searching for one in your area, or lookup telescope house.

You want to be shooting at 100 ISO, =)

I have a 450D and the live view is great for astrophotography. Only problem is that the camera itself doesn't have enough gain for fainter subjects… but the 500D has 12,800ISO. Time for an upgrade : )

firstly, go for canon….cheaper lenses and more choice. what's ur budget?

The LV magnification makes it much easier to confirm the precise focus compared to using the viewfinder – and LV with the main sensor also eliminates any errors with the viewfinder not being perfectly calibrated.

say mate when you talk abot how live view makes it easier to focus, do you mean easier as in "dont have to bend my head to an awkward position", or easier as in more precise then the actual viewfinder?

I reccomend something like the Finepix S5800. Great cameras and cheap.

The technique is identical for all of Canon's current DSLRs, incoluding the 50D. You can also use a film SLR, although obviously there won't be live view for focusing! You'll have to reply on the viewfinder alone.
